Margaux Dubuis

My name’s Margaux Dubuis and I have the pleasure of being Maria’s first PhD student in the framework of the SHADES project for the coming five years. Within this collaboration, we will conduct similar experiments on two different languages: Plains Cree and Mapudungun with the aim of better understanding the speaker’s perception of productivity within the verb complex (alias: is it possible to create new verbs simply like that? Or does it require more specific conditions?).

Driven by my passion for linguistics, I was drawn to the vast diversity of South American languages. For my MA thesis, I focused on a Panonan language, Shipibo-Konibo, examining the use of the direct evidential marker and its potential prosodic functions. Seeking to expand my expertise, I set my sights on Mapudungun (isolate, Chili), and decided to study this language in greater depth.
