Dr. Maria Mazzoli

Dr Maria Mazzoli is an assistant professor in the group Minorities & Multilingualism at the University of Groningen and a member of the Center for Language and Cognition (CLCG). Her interests include creole languages, mixed languages and the sociolinguistics of minority and endangered languages.

She has worked on the English-lexicon creole Naijá (Nigerian Pidgin) since her PhD dissertation. Her work includes descriptive studies of the copular system of Naijá, as well as a sociolinguistic study of language attitudes in communities where it is spoken as a first language. Subsequently, she extended her interests to mixed language, and worked on the productivity of morphological schemas in Michif, the Plains Cree/French mixed language spoken in Canada and the USA.
